May | Coffee Table Thursday

9:11 AM

I'm sad to say that May didn't leave too much time for reading for me. With the semester ending and work getting busier, I barely had time to finish any books. But here we are, another Coffee Table Thursday!

1. Tangled Beauty by K.L. Middleton

Girl has gay best friend who happens to be a trust fund brat and needs to convince his parents that he's straight. So they go back home and try to be the cutest straight couple ever. But the girl falls for her best friend's straight brother, who's to be married to some French socialite. I liked the characters, but some of the stunts were just a little too far fetched. Also, what is the deal with chick lits and stalkers this month (See next book)?

Verdict: This was a very short book, and definitely not one of my favorites. I think it's a great plot idea, but it just wasn't executed well for me.

2. Fight For Me by Bethany Bazile

It begins with Lexi finding out that her boyfriend cheated on her, and soon afterwards she loses her twin brother in a car accident. Faced with the loss of two important men in her life, she tries to cope and move on. Three years later, an old flame and friend Ryder comes back into her life. He's a professional MMA fighter, training for a huge championship fight but doesn't want to be distracted by Lexi. They try to stay out of each other's way, but eventually they give in to each other. Only with nosy ex girlfriends and boyfriends, stalkers, and flirty guys at the gym Ryder owns.

Verdict: While this was somewhat of a classic cheesy chick lit, I actually really did enjoy this book and would read it again.

3. A Storm of Swords by George R. R. Martin

This was definitely the hardest GoT book to get through! It started off slow, but once you get into it you can't put it down. If you're familiar with the TV series, this book is the mixture of the third and fourth seasons. I cried when Rob and Catelyn died. If those last two seasons confused you, the book will make a lot of things clear. What I really loved was that the fight between the Mountain and Oberyn Martell really showed how lively and jubilant the Red Viper was. I was devastated by his death. You feel so bad for all the pain and devastation the characters go through, like Sansa and Arya and Jon.

Verdict: You guys know how much I love this series.

What did you guys read this past month?
