Winter Skincare Tips {Blogmas Day 12}

9:00 AM

If there's one thing I hate about winter, it's my dry skin!

I have eczema, which means that moisturizer and thick creams are a staple in my makeup bag at all times. I go to the gym each morning before work and class and carry giant tub of facial moisturizer and a tube of eczema cream on hand for after I get out of the shower - just like at home.

Tip #1

Stay hydrated - obviously. Keep water on hand and try to get 8 glasses of water every day! It really makes a difference in not only how you feel but also how good your skin looks and feels throughout the day.

Tip #2

Oatmeal based products are great for your combination skin. I love making homemade oatmeal masks to wear for 10-15 minutes at night after a long, stressful day. Rite Aid also has a great generic brand of eczema lotion that's made with oatmeal and helps stop any itching I may have overnight instantly. Oatmeal can help balance the oil in your skin and the oats make a great natural exfoliator to scrub off any dead skin.

Tip #3

Sugar scrubs are great for dry skin. Homemade face masks are some of my favorite DIY beauty remedies. Chances are you already have all of the ingredients you need in your pantry. Mix together some coconut or olive oil and brown sugar and apply to skin as a gentle exfoliator.

Tip #4

If you have dry or cracked hands, forget hand lotions and go for a salve instead. It's like lip balms for your hands. I keep mine handy in my bag so that any time I feel that they're dry I can massage some into my skin ASAP.

Tip #5

Avoid super hot showers/baths or hot water when washing your face. Stick to lukewarm temperatures - anything too hot can dry out your skin even more. Always splash your face with cool water to close your pores back up as well.

What are some of your winter skincare regimes?
